My name is Ana Engelhorn. I am an established interior designer and Associate of the Society of British and International Design (SBID), one of the leading professional accrediting bodies in the UK. Having completed many home redesigns, both for myself and my clients, I understand the process, the requirements and the common obstacles encountered. Over the years, I have developed a tried and tested process to facilitate the planning and execution of a successful home redesign.
I hope this general home redesign guide provides a friendly, helping hand – offering useful advice on how to organise your plans and allowing you to step back and consider it piece by piece. Above all, enjoy the process and, ultimately, do what feels right for you.
Planning – whether you have professional architectural drawings or simply a rough sketch showing room shape, wall measurements and fixed features, I discuss how a floor plan is very useful when it comes time to order paint and choose furniture.
Brainstorming – here I look at how best to organise and collate your ideas, and to gather samples so you have a source of room-by-room inspiration.
Questionnaire – this set of questions will help you organise your thoughts and provide insight into the atmosphere and style that will best suit you.
Layering – explains how to take the last step a bit further, offering key themes to consider in a room-by-room redesign.
Tips and summary – working through this guide will set you up for smooth, clear communication with your contractors and enable you to work through your project in a logical, stress-free manner.
