Palamós Farmhouse Restoration

March 29, 2019 | By Ana Engelhorn

We want to shine the spotlight today on our Palamós Farmhouse restoration, which, as mentioned in our last newsletter, has been shortlisted for the International Design & Architecture’s 2019 Europe Award and its Residential Property by Value (£2.5-£5million) Award.

A historic farmhouse in the beautiful Catalan countryside, its two towers date back to the 16th century (fun fact: they were once used to spot incoming pirates!) and the main house was built in the 17th century.

BUILD
Focussing on the main house as the towers are under national protection, we engaged specialist builders and architects to help restore it to its former glory.

CREATE
Using original materials and highlighting historic features, like the stone floors on the ground floor and the antique oak boards upstairs, we accentuated the property’s high ceilings to create large, airy rooms that invite the sweeping Spanish countryside indoors.

SOURCE
We went to UK-based antiques supplier Brandt Tudgay from Bespoke Furniture Makers to find furniture that befit a historic European farmhouse. As he said:

“The timeless pieces Ana chose from our collection for the Catalan farmhouse were exceptional in that setting. They stood out like pieces of art with the antique wooden flooring and stone walls forming the beautiful backdrop.”

As always with our perfectly imperfect interiors, we like to unite the old with the new. In this case, we brought in bold, contemporary touches to the décor, such as chrome bathroom fittings from Drummonds and antique furniture – creating an elegant marriage between antique charm and modern luxury. As Drummonds said:

“The craftsmanship in Drummonds’ bathrooms, paired with Ana’s eye for organic materials produce luxurious interiors with a rough, contemporary edge. The historic settings and European style of Ana’s projects enhances the elegance of our products, so they become the eye-catching, breath-taking centre of attention.”
